Parker Linhart Scores Game-Winner late for Dramatic 1-0 Victory
The Nelson Men's Soccer team has won five out of six with two games remaining
The Nelson Warriors' Men's Soccer team (5-6-3) notched a thrilling road victory, edging the Nobel University Knights 1-0 in a nail-biter at Anaheim, CA, where late heroics sealed the deal in dramatic fashion as their exciting inaugural season nears it's close.
A defensive masterclass from both sides, Nelson's backline and goalkeeping played with the ultimate Warrior spirit, repelling wave after wave of Knight attacks, preserving a scoreless stalemate as the clock brought both teams closer to the brink of a scoreless tie.
But as the tension mounted, the Warriors remained composed and when a crack in the defense finally presented itself, three Warriors jumped at the advantage to put together the only offensive showing either squad could muster on the evening.
Streaking down the flank, Pablo Pulido ignited the scoring sequence with a bullet pass to Joemar Valenzuela, who deftly controlled and delivered a pinpoint setup to Parker Linhart. Setting his body in perfect striking form, Linhart rifled the sphere past the Knights' keeper for the game's only goal, sending the Nelson sideline into ecstasy and stunning the home crowd.
The shutout marked another clean sheet for the Warriors, their fourth in six matches, holding firm through the frantic final minutes to secure the hard-earned victory.
Up next for the Warriors will be at Bethesda at 10am on Thursday, October 30, before closing out the season at home vs the same foe, at 2pm on November 4.
