The Nelson University Athletics Department, in accordance with the NCCAA, commits to the mandatory one-day off policy for one day per week throughout the year. The one day off each week (Sunday through Saturday) will be on Sunday, in alignment with the university schedule, and our general non-competition day is already in place. In the event that Sunday presents a conflict for an agreed-upon reason (post-season play, unique competitive circumstances, or other similar situations), another day must be given "off" in the same week and must be communicated to the Athletic Director.
The Mandatory day off policy provides one day per week that does not involve mandatory team training, including practice, weight training, and competition. Student-athletes may decide to work out or engage in sport-specific training of their own volition; however, it shall not be required by coaches or staff. The following areas are permitted on Sunday as part of team organization and are not impacted by this policy: travel, sports medicine treatments, team building activities, community service, or faith development opportunities. The mandatory day off provides student-athletes with a day of rest and focus on other areas of their lives and is believed to be in the best interest of the student-athlete.
If students do not feel this policy is being properly adhered to, they can reach out to the Athletic Director at nebert@nelson.edu
