Four Warriors make All-Conference
Following a fantastic 20-5 regular season, Nelson Warriors guards Harley Upton and Rob Jenkins, and forward Zaveion Bineyard were each named to the SWS All-Conference First Team along with forward Terrin Ross who was named to the All-Conference Second Team. This is believed to be the first time in school-history that three players were named all first-team and four players were honored with this presitigous individual postseason award.
Harley Upton led the team in scoring this season with a career-high 21.1 points per game, along with 45.8% shooting from 3, 89.5% from the charity stripe, and 4.0 rebounds and 2.6 assists. Upton's 3-point shooting was prolifically punctual, as he made at least one 3-point shot in all 25 regular season games, hitting a Nelson-record 13 in the team's regular season finale on February 22.
Rob Jenkins trailed Upton by just .4 points per game in scoring, finishing at 19.7 per game, and too shot exceptionally well from the outside, finishing the season at 43.6%. Moreover, he shot a blistering 64.6% from inside the arc, a truly impressive number for a guard in the game of basketball at any level. Knwon and louded for playing a high-energy well-rounded game, Jenkins further averaged 5.8 rebounds, 4.6 assists, and 2.2 steals per contest.
Zaveion Bineyard averaged 15.8 points per game on 59.6% from the field, and as a bit of a unicorn stretch-four, he also shot an impressive 40.3% from 3, nailing a torrid 54.5% of his outside attempts in the season's final six games. Very solid defensively as well, on nine occasions this season Bineyard stole the ball at least 3 times, and recorded at least 3 blocks six times.
Terrin Ross got stronger as the season rolled along, peaking at the right time with the Conference Tournament around the corner, averaging 8.6 points and 6.9 rebounds on the year, but a 13.7 points and 10.7 rebounds double-double over the last six games of the season. And although he only shot seven 3-pointers this year, Ross drained 4 of them for an astounding 57.1%, such a high percentage which begs the question - why didn't he shoot more?
The Nelson Warriors begin the SWS Conference Tournament with their four all-conference players on Friday, February 28, at 4pm.
